Cargo transit to Armenia through Azerbaijan set to begin by year-end—official
Russian Railways is advancing plans for a new transit corridor to Armenia through Azerbaijan, aiming to boost regional logistics and streamline cargo movement. Following a successful test shipment, officials say all operational details, including cargo types and volumes, will be finalized by the end of the year.
The opening of a transit route to Armenia through Azerbaijan is set to provide additional logistical opportunities, Sergey Pavlov, First Deputy Managing Director at Russian Railways (RZD), stated, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
Despite the novelty of the process, Pavlov noted that the first test shipment has already been successfully completed. “The results showed that this route is one of the most efficient options for shippers and clients,” he said.
Pavlov emphasized that the parties involved are currently working to determine the types of cargo suitable for export, import, and transit along this route. “This process is not simple and requires several stages of coordination, but it is already in an active phase,” he added.
A joint meeting of the involved parties recently took place, and all details are expected to be finalized by the end of the year. “I am confident that by the end of the year, we will be able to clearly define the categories and volumes of cargo that will be transported along this route,” Pavlov stated.
