China slams US for new tariffs, calls measures “double standards”
China’s Ministry of Commerce has criticised the U.S. decision to impose new trade tariffs, calling it an example of “double standards” by Washington.
“China, as a responsible major country, firmly safeguards its national and international security. U.S. statements are a classic example of double standards,” Caliber.Az reports, citing the statement, published on the ministry’s official website.
Beijing added that it is closely monitoring developments and considers its stance on the new tariffs principled and fair. In response to the U.S. actions, Chinese authorities are implementing additional export control measures.
Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that, starting November 1, 100% tariffs will be imposed on all Chinese goods in addition to existing tariffs. Trump also announced export controls on “critically important software,” framing these measures as a response to China’s “extremely aggressive trade posture.”
China, as a responsible major country, employs export controls on related items according to the law, in order to better defend world peace and regional stability, and to fulfill non-proliferation and other international obligations.
