Citizens of five countries support Ukraine's invitation to NATO before end of war Poll data

Residents of France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and the United States support the start of the process of Ukraine's accession to NATO even while the war is still ongoing.

This is evidenced by the results of a survey of citizens of the five countries, commissioned by the New Europe Centre by the Kantar company, European Pravda reports

Given the NATO summit in Vilnius, where Ukraine expects to receive an invitation to join the alliance, citizens of the five countries that make up the bloc were asked what NATO actions they hoped for.

The two most popular answers - "invite Ukraine to become a member of NATO despite the war" and "invite Ukraine to become a member of NATO, but with actual accession after the end of the war" – signify the existence of noticeable support for inviting most citizens in all countries where the survey was conducted.

The level of support for these two combined options ranges in the surveyed EU countries from 50 per cent to 56 per cent, while in the US this option is preferred by 70 per cent of respondents.

The greatest opposition to Ukraine's membership in NATO is observed in Germany (22 per cent), and the least - in the United States, where only 12 per cent oppose it.

The figures in other countries are 17 per cent in France, 19 per cent in Italy, and 16 per cent in the Netherlands.

The most cautious supporters of Ukraine's accession to NATO chose to wait for the invitation until the war is over. This answer was preferred by about a quarter of respondents, with the highest support in the Netherlands (29 per cent) and the lowest in the United States (19 per cent).

The same poll showed that in France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, and the United States citizens believe regime change in Russia is the most effective precondition for ensuring lasting peace in Ukraine.
