Orban: Hamas flags will not fly in Hungary

03 April 2025 19:36

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has expressed strong opposition to the spread of anti-Semitism in Europe, attributing it to the influx of migrants from Muslim-majority countries in the Middle East.

His comments came during a press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who is currently on a visit to Budapest, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.

Orban criticised European Union leaders for their failure to address the issue, stating that "anti-Semitism is being imported into Western Europe along with illegal migration," adding that Brussels' political elite has been reluctant to tackle the problem.

He reiterated Hungary's commitment to maintaining a strict stance against illegal immigration and confirmed the country's policy of "zero tolerance" towards anti-Semitism.

The Hungarian leader also emphasised that Hungary hosts the third-largest Jewish community in Europe, which he stated is "safe and secure."

"In Hungary, Hamas flags will not fly, and they will not fly," Orban assured. Demonstrations in support of Palestinians have been banned in the country since October 2023, following an attack on Israel by the radical Palestinian group.

Orban described the incident as "a brutal and serious attack on Israel's sovereignty, which has had a global impact." He reaffirmed Hungary's unwavering support for Israel's right to defend itself and its citizens.

Orban concluded his statement by wishing Netanyahu success in his efforts to ensure the safety of Israel's people.
