Conservation of water resources of strategic importance for Azerbaijan - premier

Prime Minister Ali Asadov has said that the conservation of water resources is of strategic importance for Azerbaijan.

Asadov made the remarks at a meeting with a delegation led by Turkish Minister of Environment, Urbanisation and Climate Change Mehmet Ozhaseki, Report informs.

The importance of the second Meteorological Forum of the Turkic World in Baku was emphasised at the meeting. Confidence was expressed that the forum would create ample opportunities for the further development of cooperation in meteorology among the Turkic states.

The sides emphasised the importance of coordinating the activity of the meteorological services of the Turkic states and combining efforts in this sphere.

Ozhaseki was informed about the ongoing work to modernize the meteorological sector in Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan is taking constant measures to improve the activity of the National Hydrometeorological Service in accordance with the standards of the World Meteorological Organisation.

The sides also expressed satisfaction with the development of cooperation between the National Hydrometeorological Service and the Turkish State Meteorological Service. The services regularly exchange experience.

As for water resources management, Asadov emphasized that the conservation of water resources is of strategic importance for Azerbaijan. In this regard, strengthening cooperation between the two countries on the protection and sustainable use of water resources in the Araz and Kura river basins was considered an urgent issue on the agenda.
