Cyberattack at Brussels Airport causes major travel disruptions
Brussels Airport in Belgium experienced significant travel disruptions this weekend following a cyberattack on Friday night, September 19.
The airport announced this morning, September 20, that the attack targeted its service provider responsible for check-in and boarding systems, affecting multiple European airports, including Brussels, according to foreign media.
“As a result, only manual check-in and boarding are currently possible,” the airport said in a statement. “The service provider is actively addressing the issue and working to resolve it as quickly as possible.”
The cyberattack has had a substantial impact on the airport’s flight schedule, leading to delays and cancellations. Passengers with flights on September 20 are advised to check their flight status with their airline before heading to the airport and to only come if their flight is confirmed.
For those with confirmed flights, the airport recommends arriving at least two hours before departure for flights within the Schengen area and three hours for flights to destinations outside the Schengen zone.
