Elbit strikes multi-million dollar mortar deal amid European pressure on Israel Customer kept dark
As European countries intensify pressure on Israel regarding the conflict in Gaza, some have even enforced arms embargoes on the IDF. Nonetheless, European nations continue to procure weaponry from Israel.
According to Detaly.co.il, on May 8, Elbit announced a lucrative deal worth approximately $53 million. The contract entails supplying 120mm Crossbow turret mortars to be mounted on Pandur 6X6 APCs for a European buyer. This marks the first contract awarded in six years.
The Crossbow system boasts full automation and integrates seamlessly with the Fire Control System (FCS), which further interfaces with the Combat Management System. Following task completion, the vehicle halts, and the mortar is primed for firing, with the initial round launched in under 30 seconds. With automatic loading, it can discharge 10 rounds within the first minute and maintain a steady rate of fire at 6 rounds per minute.
Featuring a 3-meter long barrel, the mortar offers a range of approximately 10 km at maximum charge. It accommodates various standard 120mm ammunition types, including fragmentation, flare, and smoke, along with guided munitions like the Iron Sting ("Steel Sting").
