UK foreign secretary on future of Ukraine war: “Putin not ready to seriously negotiate”
British Foreign Secretary David Lammy has offered a cautious outlook on the future of the conflict in Ukraine, warning that Russian President Vladimir Putin remains unwilling to engage in serious peace talks.
Speaking in an interview with The Guardian, Lammy said Putin continues to hold “maximalist and imperialist ambitions,” making immediate resolution unlikely, Caliber.Az reports.
“The battle Ukraine has fought, with the support of the UK, Europe and the United States, is immense,” Lammy stated.
“I suspect that in a year’s time, talks will be going on. The question is how serious Russia is about those talks.”
Lammy praised the resilience of the Ukrainian people, describing their determination as “deeply inspiring.”
He highlighted their steadfastness and belief in their country, saying: “Even if the world left them behind, they’d still be waging a guerrilla war.”
