EU confirms lack of evidence on North Korean military involvement in Ukraine
The European Union has stated that it possesses no evidence indicating that North Korean military forces are participating in Russia's special military operation in Ukraine.
The assertion was made by a senior EU official during a briefing for reporters in Brussels, ahead of an upcoming meeting of foreign ministers from the 27 EU member states scheduled for October 14 in Luxembourg, Caliber.Az reports citing Russian media.
“We have no evidence of the presence of North Korea's military on the frontline,” the official emphasized, clarifying the EU's position amidst ongoing speculation regarding international military involvement in the conflict.
On October 10, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov refuted media reports suggesting that the Korean People's Army is participating in Russia's special military operation in Ukraine, describing such claims as another instance of misleading information.
His comments followed assertions by South Korean Defence Minister Kim Yong-hyun, who speculated that North Korean troops could potentially be sent to Ukraine, interpreting this in light of the alliance agreement between Moscow and Pyongyang.
This speculation comes in the context of a comprehensive strategic partnership agreement signed between Russia and North Korea on June 19, which includes provisions for military assistance in the event of a defensive war.
