Trump says Iran nuclear program set back permanently, hints at China visit
US President Donald Trump said on July 4 that Iran had not agreed to inspections of its nuclear program nor to cease uranium enrichment.
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump claimed Tehran’s nuclear program had been permanently set back, though he acknowledged Iran could attempt to restart it at a different location, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
"I would say it's set back permanently," Trump stated as he traveled to New Jersey following an Independence Day celebration at the White House. "I would think they'd have to start at a different location. And if they did start, it would be a problem."
The president also said he would not permit Tehran to resume its nuclear activities and asserted that Iran was interested in holding talks with him. He is expected to discuss the issue further with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during the latter’s visit to the White House on July 7.
Commenting on foreign relations, Trump said he had received an invitation to visit China and indicated that Chinese President Xi Jinping may also travel to the United States.
Trump noted that he and Xi maintain a good relationship. He also mentioned that no decision had been made on his next international destination, although trips to Europe and Türkiye were under consideration.
