EU imposes sanctions on Iranian state corporation producing drones
The European Union has included in the sanctions list the Iranian state corporation Iran Aircraft Manufacturing Industries Corporation (HESA), which produces unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
According to Interfax, this is stated in a publication in the Official Journal of the EU.
“HESA Aircraft Corporation is an Iranian company specializing in the production of military and civil aircraft, and unmanned aerial vehicles. HESA manufactures UAVs used by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps,” according to an annex to the EU Council regulation published on January 30.
“UAVs manufactured by HESA in Iran are used by the Russian Federation,” the document states.
The Council of the EU believes that due to the situation in Ukraine, “an organization involved in the development and delivery of unmanned aerial vehicles to Russia should be included in the list of individuals and legal entities and organizations subject to restrictive measures.”
This EU regulation shall enter into force on the date of its publication in the Official Journal of the European Union.
