AFD Party wants to turn German state upside down, co-leader says
Alternative for Germany (AfD) Party co-leader Tino Chrupalla has called on German Chancellor Friedrich Merz to resign following the results of the state election in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, noting that they want to turn the state upside down again.
In an interview with DW, he described the election results as a crushing defeat for Merz as chancellor, Caliber.Az reports.
“I would have expected him to learn lessons from this disaster in Berlin and here in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and resign. Citizens would expect this, and the country deserves it,” Chrupalla said.
Chrupalla also said he believed support for the AfD would continue to grow because “citizens want change”.
According to him, the party would eventually enter government, for which, he believes, “all that is needed is patience”.
“And we are ready. We want change. We want to turn the state upside down again,” he added.
According to the final results, the AfD received 38.2% of the vote and came first, while Merz’s Christian Democratic Union (CDU) won 4.9% and, for the first time in its history, failed to enter the state parliament.
