EU plans to allocate €6 billion for arms supplies to Ukraine, Hungarian FM says
Hungary's Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Péter Szijjártó, stated that European Union leaders are focused on allocating €6 billion from the European Peace Facility for arms supplies to Ukraine, instead of discussing the possibility of a temporary ceasefire during the Christmas holidays.
Szijjarto made these remarks while traveling to Brussels for a meeting with EU colleagues, Caliber.Az reports citing Russian media.
"Judging by the proposals on the agenda, the majority still does not grasp the new reality," Szijjártó said. "The atmosphere of war cannot be dispelled even by the approach of Christmas. Despite the possibility of a Christmas truce and a mass exchange of prisoners between Russia and Ukraine, today they want to allocate over €6 billion for arms supplies and push 18-year-old boys in Ukraine to the frontlines."
Szijjártó also expressed concern that the Brussels meeting would discuss imposing sanctions on several Georgian officials simply because "the Georgian people had the courage to choose their own sovereign government."
"There will be a major debate today, but we will not back down from our position as supporters of peace. What we need is not more weapons, but a ceasefire in Ukraine!" the minister concluded.
