European Council president warns of rising risk of Third World War
Charles Michel, the President of the European Council, has expressed concerns that the likelihood of a Third World War is becoming increasingly apparent.
According to Michel, the world is currently facing an "extremely dangerous moment," Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.
"A Third World War is a real possibility, but we can and must prevent it. It is still possible to change the course of history," he remarked.
However, Michel did not specify which countries might be drawn into the conflict if it were to escalate.
Notably, on September 26, at the United Nations General Assembly, Charles Michel issued a stark warning, suggesting that “a Third World War is possible” and calling for an urgent return to reason.
In his address, Michel highlighted the European Union’s unwavering commitment to peace, democracy, and international humanitarian law—values he deemed essential in a world facing an alarming convergence of major conflicts.
"We feel helpless as we watch three significant conflicts merge into a dangerous, explosive cocktail," he remarked.
Michel criticised Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, describing it as an "illegal and unprovoked" assault by a permanent member of the Security Council.
"This is an attempt to impose the law of force rather than the force of law," he said. He reaffirmed the EU’s resolve, pledging support for Ukraine "for as long as necessary."
