Russian strike damages Kyiv’s main mosque Photo
On July 31, a missile strike by Russian forces damaged the main mosque of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Ukraine “Umma” and the adjacent Islamic Cultural Centre in Kyiv, Ukrainian officials said.
No casualties were reported at the religious sites, Caliber.Az reports via Ukrainian media.
The mosque, one of the largest in Ukraine, regularly hosts thousands of worshippers for Friday prayers, according to Murat Suleymanov, Mufti of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Ukraine “Umma,” who shared the information on his Facebook page.
“We are unbreakable. We know that we will win because this is a matter of justice. Ukraine has already won. And through these actions, we see that they (the Russian military – ed.) are powerless; they can only strike civilians, they can only do what brings tears and pain. Therefore, Allah will punish them all in this life and the next,” Suleymanov said.
The overnight attack involved drones and missiles targeting several districts across Kyiv, injuring 52 people, 30 of whom were hospitalised.
At least six people were killed, according to local emergency services.
