Heavy rain, windstorm kill four, injure 23 in Pakistan’s Bannu district
At least four people have been killed and 23 others injured after a severe downpour accompanied by strong winds caused widespread damage in Pakistan’s Bannu district on June 12, local authorities said.
According to officials, the victims included residents from the Mughalkhel Bharat area, among them Bilqiaz Khan, the daughter of Gulzad Ali, as well as the wife and daughter of Shafidullah, Dawn reports.
The storm triggered extensive destruction across the district, damaging numerous homes, shops, and other structures. Several incidents of wall and roof collapses were reported, with residents—including women and children—trapped under debris in affected areas.
Emergency services responded shortly after receiving distress calls, with Rescue 1122 teams deployed to multiple locations to carry out search and rescue operations. Injured individuals were pulled from rubble and transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.
In response to the disaster, the district administration declared an emergency in all public hospitals operating under the Medical Teaching Institutions (MTI) Bannu network. Medical staff, including doctors and nurses, were placed on high alert to manage the influx of casualties and provide urgent care.
