Ukraine claims strike on key Russian oil facility in Volgograd region
Ukraine’s General Staff said its armed forces carried out a strike on a major oil processing and pumping facility in Russia’s Volgograd region, targeting infrastructure linked to the country’s energy export network.
According to a statement released by the military, Ukrainian forces struck the facility near the village of Kotovo during overnight operations on June 13. The General Staff said the attack resulted in damage to the site and sparked a fire, both of which it said had been confirmed, Caliber.Az reports
The facility is involved in the preparation, transportation, and transfer of crude oil through Russia’s main pipeline system to domestic refineries and export infrastructure, the statement said.
Ukrainian officials added that the site collects and processes oil from the Korobkovskoye oil and gas field in the Volgograd region, as well as neighbouring fields in the Volgograd and Astrakhan regions and the Republic of Kalmykia.
The General Staff also stated that Ukrainian forces had struck unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) control centres and concentrations of Russian troops as part of broader operations. No further details were immediately provided.
