European Parliament to open permanent representation in Kyiv VIDEO
European Parliament President Roberta Metsola has announced the upcoming opening of a permanent European Parliament representation in Kyiv.
"I am here this week to strengthen our cooperation even further. We are opening a permanent representation of the European Parliament here, in Kyiv, so that we are present on the ground," Metsola said during her speech at the Verkhovna Rada on September 17, Caliber.Az reports.
The announcement was met with a standing ovation, with the EP president noting that "this was our committment to you and we have kept it."
"We are here with you, and we are here to stay," she added.
She also emphasised that "peace must be permanent, it must be based on justice and it must be based on dignity."

She further noted that the permanent presence is intended "to ensure that we are present in Ukraine and work alongside you every day."
In addition to the announcement on the representation, Metsola revealed that the European Union is preparing to impose a new round of sanctions on Russia.
The European Parliament president arrives in Kyiv on the morning of September 17.
