Ex-Armenian commander admits to mining Azerbaijani lands in court confession
At a Baku Military Court session, Levon Mnatsakanyan—the former self-styled "defence minister" of the separatist entity in Azerbaijan’s formerly occupied territories—answered prosecution questions about laying landmines in Azerbaijani territory.
Mntsakanyan revealed that both anti-personnel and anti-tank mines had been planted in the occupied areas, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
He stated that initially, Soviet-made mines were used, followed by mines acquired from Russia and supplied to the separatist regime via Armenia.
“In recent years, we have also received mines manufactured in the Republic of Armenia,” Mntsakanyan added.
It should be recalled that in previous hearings, Mntsakanyan testified that the "army" of the self-proclaimed regime was considered part of the Armenian armed forces.
The trial in Baku continues against Armenian nationals accused of crimes against peace and humanity, war crimes, including planning and waging aggressive war, genocide, violations of the laws and customs of war, terrorism, financing terrorism, unlawful seizure and retention of power, among other serious offences. The next session is scheduled for 13 June.
