Azerbaijan, Armenia parliament speakers to hold talks in Istanbul On sidelines of IPU
Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis (Parliament), Sahiba Gafarova, is due to meet the President of Armenia’s National Assembly, Alen Simonyan, during her official visit to Türkiye.
The meeting is scheduled to take place on the sidelines of the 152nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Istanbul, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
The 152nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) is being held in Istanbul from 15 to 19 April 2026, bringing together parliamentary delegations from around the world.
All key IPU statutory bodies are convening during the session, including the Governing Council, Standing Committees, and specialised panels such as the Committees on the Human Rights of Parliamentarians and on Middle East Questions. The Forum of Women Parliamentarians and the Forum of Young MPs are also taking part.
The Assembly’s General Debate centres on the theme “Nurturing hope, securing peace and ensuring justice for future generations,” providing a platform for delegates to exchange views and promote coordinated parliamentary action.
Participants are set to adopt resolutions on urgent global issues, as well as on topics addressed by the Standing Committees. These include the role of parliaments in post-conflict management and peacebuilding, and efforts to foster a fair and sustainable global economy by tackling protectionism, lowering tariffs and preventing corporate tax avoidance.
The Assembly is expected to conclude with the adoption of a final outcome document reflecting the discussions and commitments made during the General Debate.
