Exhibition on history of Red Settlement opens in Azerbaijan’s Guba PHOTO
An exhibition celebrating the 290th anniversary of founding Red Settlement (also known as Girmizi Gasaba or Krasnaya Sloboda) has opened in Azerbaijan’s Guba district.
The exhibition, held at the Mountain Jews Museum in Red Settlement, showcased Azerbaijan’s deep commitment to multiculturalism and tolerance, Caliber.Az reports citing the local media.
The ceremony emphasised the importance of various nationalities and religious groups coexisting peacefully and harmoniously, and their integration with the local community.
The Mountain Jews Museum, established in 2019, aims to preserve and pass on the rich history of Red Settlement and the lifestyle of the Mountain Jews. The museum covers various historical periods and aspects of their material and spiritual culture, including heritage, traditions, manuscripts, and antiques.
Following the exhibition, attendees watched a video dedicated to Red Settlement, further enriching their understanding of the settlement’s significance.
Red Settlement, a settlement where Mountain Jews live in close-knit communities, is situated in the Guba district on the left bank of the Gudialchai River. The compact settlement of Mountain Jews in the Guba district dates back to the mid-18th century. During the reign of Fatali Khan, Jews from surrounding regions began relocating to the Guba Khanate. During this period, over ten synagogues were constructed in the newly established Jewish quarters.
