Muslim Council of Elders praises Aliyev’s focus on Islamic scholarly heritage

Secretary-General of the Muslim Council of Elders Mohamed Abdelsalam has praised Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev for his attention to the legacy of Muslim scholars.

Abdelsalam made the remarks at the first international scientific-practical conference dedicated to Azerbaijani thinker and scholar Sheikh Seyid Yahya Bakuvi, held in Baku as part of the seventh meeting of the Council of Heads of Muslim Religious Boards of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), Caliber.Az reports via local media. 

He said the use of religion to fuel conflicts, as well as interfaith and inter-sectarian confrontations, remains a serious concern.

"The Muslim Council of Elders attaches particular importance to dialogue. Dialogue in itself is not an end, but represents a path leading to mutual recognition, cooperation, and the establishment of peace. Human values must be brought to the forefront, especially in religious speeches addressed to the youth. Religious and cultural heritage should be presented to new generations in the language of their time," Abdelsalam said.
