FM: India assures cooperation with any US president
Indian Minister of External Affairs Subrahmanyam Jaishankar has said that India will refrain from making official statements about the upcoming US elections but is confident in its ability to work effectively with any elected president.
“We generally do not comment on other countries' elections, as we hope others will do the same for ours. The American system will decide its outcome, and we are confident in our ability to cooperate with whoever becomes President of the United States,” Jaishankar said at an event in New Delhi on the role of the Indian diaspora, Caliber.Az reports citing the Russian media.
Jaishankar noted that the world is currently experiencing an “exceptionally complex period” due to ongoing events in the Middle East, Ukraine, and Asia.
He stressed the importance of restoring balance in international relations to achieve optimal outcomes.
The US presidential election is scheduled for November 5. While incumbent President Joe Biden was initially expected to represent the Democratic Party, calls for his withdrawal grew louder following a poor performance in June's debates against Republican candidate Donald Trump. On July 21, Biden decided to exit the race and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee for the presidency.
