Greece rules out deployment of troops to Ukraine amid security talks
Greece has reaffirmed that it does not intend to send troops to Ukraine, even in the event that Kyiv is granted formal security guarantees, government spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis said.
Marinakis clarified that the possible deployment of peacekeeping forces in the region remains a matter for future deliberation and is contingent upon the outcomes of ongoing consultations surrounding international security commitments, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
“The deployment of peacekeeping forces is associated with a subsequent phase of discussions on security guarantees,” Marinakis stated. “Each country will determine its course of action independently, and therefore any current discussions on this matter are premature.”
Reiterating Greece’s longstanding stance, Marinakis underscored that while Athens is open to supporting Ukraine in various ways, direct military involvement is not on the table.
“We, like other countries, will be ready to answer the question of how we will assist in such a matter — but not with troops,” he emphasized.
Greece has consistently opposed the option of sending military personnel to Ukraine, maintaining its support through non-military channels.
