Finland urges increased pressure on Russia over Ukraine
Finnish Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen has said that pressure on Russia must be maintained and support for Ukraine strengthened at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
She made the remarks at the Ukraine House in Davos, organised by the Victor Pinchuk Foundation. Valtonen stressed the importance of achieving a just peace for Ukraine, Caliber.Az cites a European Pravda correspondent reporting from the venue.
Valtonen criticised Russia for a nighttime strike on Ukrainian regions that left thousands of homes in the capital Kyiv without heating during freezing temperatures.
“We must ask the free world to continue putting pressure on Russia. Unfortunately, this has not produced results overnight, but the direction is absolutely right. And I can assure you that European countries will stand by Ukraine for as long as it takes,” Valtonen said.
She added that Europe will continue to support Ukraine, step up economic sanctions against Russia, and develop joint defence and deterrence measures that will help Ukraine in the long term.
