Renault enters military drone market with monthly output of 600 drones
French automaker Renault, one of the world’s most recognised car manufacturers, is entering the military technology sector by beginning production of drones for the French army.
The company has signed a contract with France’s Directorate General of Armaments (DGA), Caliber.Az reports via French media.
Drone assembly will take place at Renault’s Le Mans plant, and engines will be produced at its Cléon facility in Normandy, with the project carried out in partnership with French defence company Turgis & Gaillard.
The drones, part of the Chorus series, are classified as long-range remotely controlled munitions. In addition to strike missions, they can be used for reconnaissance and surveillance. Production capacity is set at up to 600 drones per month.
The contract could generate around €1 billion for Renault over the next ten years. The company confirmed its participation, noting that the French Ministry of Armed Forces invited them to help develop a national drone industry using expertise in mass production of high-tech goods.
