Twenty-five years since 9/11: 2,977 drones recreate Twin Towers over New York VIDEO
New York marked the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks with a large-scale drone display recreating the city’s iconic Twin Towers over New York Harbour.
The commemorative installation featured 2,977 illuminated drones — one for each person killed in the September 11, 2001 attacks, CBS News reports.
The drones recreated the Twin Towers at their full architectural scale, creating a luminous representation of the World Trade Centre skyline above the harbour.
The project was produced by Coppell, Texas-based Sky Elements in collaboration with artists, producers and members of the 9/11 community, including victims’ families, survivors and first responders.
The September 11 attacks killed 2,977 people when hijacked commercial aircraft were used in coordinated attacks in New York, at the Pentagon and in Pennsylvania.
