Finnish FM: Europe prepared to act over Greenland
Finnish Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen said Europe is prepared to respond to the situation surrounding Greenland following recent statements by US President Donald Trump, while stressing that any response would be guided by principle.
Speaking at the Ukrainian House in Davos, Valtonen said Europe would seek a friendly approach where possible but would not compromise on its core values. She emphasised that there was no scenario in which Greenland could be exchanged for any concessions, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
Asked about potential European Union measures, Valtonen said a range of options was under consideration, though she did not provide details. She noted that Europe was ready to act if necessary.
Valtonen also addressed the war in Ukraine, underlining the importance of Europe’s ability to apply economic pressure on Russia and expressing hope for continued US involvement. She said Russia was facing serious economic difficulties and, while able to sustain the war for a period of time, would ultimately lose in the long term.
