Unidentified object explodes in eastern Poland cornfield, no injuries reported

20 August 2025 11:45

An unidentified object fell into a cornfield overnight in the village of Osiny, located in Poland’s Lublin province near the Ukrainian border, and exploded.

The blast shattered windows in several nearby homes, but no injuries were reported, according to foreign media.

“Burnt metal and plastic debris were found at the site,” law enforcement representative Marcin Juwik said. According to him, the object “is of unnatural origin.”

In Ukraine, air raid sirens sounded for about an hour from approximately 0900 GMT across the Volyn and Lviv regions, according to posts from the Ukrainian military on Telegram. However, regional governors reported that no air attacks occurred in those areas.

The Polish army later suggested the object may have been a component of an old propeller engine. Officials confirmed that preliminary analyses of radar system records showed no violation of Polish airspace from either Ukraine or Belarus.

The Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces emphasised that the incident did not involve any foreign intrusion, reiterating that the object fell within Polish territory without any airspace breaches.
