Foreign Ministry: Azerbaijani citizen injured amid escalation in Iran
One Azerbaijani citizen has been injured amid ongoing military tensions in the region, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) confirmed on March 1.
Aykhan Hajizada, the ministry’s spokesman, told local media, “So far, only one of our citizens has been injured. The person is receiving appropriate support from our diplomatic mission, and his condition is good.”
He emphasized that Azerbaijani embassies and consulates in the region are operating in an enhanced mode to provide assistance to citizens. “Relevant support is being provided by our diplomatic missions in response to requests from our citizens,” Hacızadə added.
Regarding evacuations, Hajizada explained that, at this stage, Azerbaijani citizens in Iran are leaving the country via land borders with Azerbaijan and Türkiye, depending on their location. “To date, 30 of our citizens have crossed into Azerbaijan,” he said.
The ministry also warned that, due to the closure of airspace in the region, no large-scale evacuation is currently planned. Citizens in affected areas are urged to monitor security updates, follow local authorities’ instructions, avoid mass gatherings, and strengthen personal safety measures.
