Minister Lecornu paid tribute to Burkhard’s tenure, praising his “clear strategic vision of threats” and his commitment to adapting the armed forces to emerging challenges.
At the same time, he expressed confidence that Mandon will continue to push forward the crucial reforms and modernisation efforts necessary to face today’s evolving security environment.
General Mandon, a graduate of the Air Force Academy in 1990, began his career as a fighter pilot. Throughout his service, he commanded the 702nd Air Base and served as chief of staff to the Minister of Armed Forces.
His leadership of the president’s personal military staff earned him a promotion to the rank of Air Force General, positioning him for this top military role.
