French minister hints at longer fuel subsidy plan amid price spike
French Transport Minister Philippe Tabarot has said that a government support plan for the road freight transport sector could be extended as early as next month in response to rising fuel prices, BFM reports.
The support program was announced by the government at the end of March following a sharp increase in fuel prices and is scheduled to take effect next week. Tabarot noted that the assistance could be extended and renewed if the crisis continues.
“I signed a decree yesterday so that these measures can be used as early as the beginning of next week and, if necessary, if the crisis continues, be sustainable and renewable,” he said, although the decree has not yet been published in the Official Journal.
When asked whether the aid could be extended in May, the minister replied: “Of course.”
