Washington, Berlin lay groundwork for stronger military ties

16 September 2026 11:25

US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth and German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius agreed during a meeting in Washington to expand military-industrial cooperation between the two countries.

The officials also discussed the concept of modernising the North Atlantic Alliance under “NATO 3.0,” higher European defence spending, and the military-industrial bases of both countries, Caliber.Az reports.

They signed an agreement designed to align the Pentagon’s strategy for reforming its defence procurement system with Germany’s law aimed at accelerating the procurement of weapons and equipment for the Bundeswehr.

Hegseth said the agreements would significantly expand bilateral cooperation in the military-industrial sector.

“We have the shared interest to ensure that our countries and the alliance stays strong,” Hegseth noted.

He added that the arrangements would also help increase the pace and volume of arms deliveries to the US and Germany’s NATO allies.
