FT: Donald Trump proposes US, China, Russia unite against ICC
US President Donald Trump has suggested that the United States, China and Russia could cooperate against the International Criminal Court (ICC) during talks with Xi Jinping in Beijing last week, according to people familiar with the US assessment of the summit.
The sources said Trump raised the idea of cooperation, arguing their interests aligned, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Financial Times.
The White House did not comment on that claim.
The Trump administration has previously criticised the ICC, accusing it of politicisation, overreach and undermining US sovereignty.
Russia and China are not parties to the International Criminal Court (ICC) and therefore do not recognise its jurisdiction or comply with its rulings.
The court has previously issued arrest warrants for several senior officials, including Russian President Vladimir Putin and other members of Russia’s leadership, as well as Israeli politicians, in connection with the conflict in Gaza.
In response to ICC decisions, the United States administration has imposed sanctions on the court, accusing it of unlawfully targeting Americans and their close allies.
