FT: Zelenskyy ready for compromise on frontlines
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is ready to make a compromise on the current front line to advance peace talks with the US, according to a senior Ukrainian official close to the president, Caliber.Az writes, citing FT.
For the record, Zelenskyy is set to visit the White House on August 18 for one of the most significant meetings of his presidency. The main goal of the talks is to secure security guarantees for Ukraine and develop a strategy to end the war with Russia.
The official said Zelenskyy’s aim in this meeting is to establish a “productive peace process without forcing Ukraine to take impossible steps, such as withdrawing troops” from the Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
To this end, the Ukrainian president is willing to make an “acceptable compromise” regarding the current frontline that could be accepted by the Ukrainian people, the official added.
The publication notes that some fear Zelenskyy’s firm stance could provoke anger from Trump, which could again jeopardise US military and intelligence support.
