Two Indian students killed, three injured in Kazakhstan road crash

The Department of Police of the Almaty Region has provided details of the accident in which two students from India were killed and three others sustained various injuries, NUR.KZ reports.

A spokesperson for the Almaty Region Police Department told a NUR.KZ correspondent that a criminal case has been opened in connection with the road traffic accident that occurred at the 86th kilometre of the Almaty–Bishkek highway.

“According to preliminary data, a 33-year-old driver of a Toyota Alphard lost control of the vehicle, causing it to overturn.

As a result of the accident, the driver died at the scene from his injuries. Two passengers later died in a medical facility, while three others were hospitalised with various injuries,” the police said.

All necessary investigative measures are currently underway to establish the full circumstances of the incident.

In addition, the Instagram account kris_p_almaty published a video filmed by a witness at the scene of the crash. The footage shows the vehicle engulfed in flames, followed by an explosion.

Earlier, the Embassy of India in Kazakhstan reported the fatal accident involving five Indian citizens. According to the embassy, two of them died at the scene, while three others with serious injuries are in intensive care.
