German president says no right time for Ukraine-Russia peace talks

The time has not yet come for Ukraine-Russia peace talks or a ceasefire discussion.

This was stated by German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier in an interview with Welt TV channel.

In his opinion, Ukraine needs a just peace, and negotiations can begin only when the appropriate conditions are created for this.

“At the moment, it must be recognised that the situation for negotiations or a ceasefire is clearly not yet in place,” Steinmeier said.

In his opinion, a ceasefire without a guarantee that the coming world will be fair for Kyiv is impossible. Steinmeier believes that "if Ukraine stops defending, it will mean the collapse of Ukraine."
