Germany provides 16% of global assistance to Ukraine, says Zelenskyy
German contributions account for 16% of all international aid provided to Ukraine since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced during a meeting with German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius in Kyiv.
“We are very grateful for Germany's assistance to Ukraine. Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Germany has helped Ukraine. Its contribution is about 16% of all the assistance that Ukraine has received. These are very significant figures,” Zelenskyy stated, Caliber.Az reports via Ukrainian media.
The Ukrainian president expressed particular appreciation for Germany's support in bolstering Ukraine's air defence systems, which have been critical in protecting the country's skies and infrastructure amid ongoing conflict.
“We are especially grateful that in difficult moments of defending the sky, blackouts, Germany has made one of the largest contributions to building Ukraine’s air defenses. We are grateful for Patriot, Iris-T, and, of course, for Gepards that protect our critical infrastructure, including the energy grid,” Zelenskyy noted.
He also praised Germany's leadership alongside the United States at the Ramstein meetings, where defence ministers coordinate military aid for Ukraine.
“We are grateful for the union of defence ministers, where everything is addressed on a monthly basis and quite quickly. We expect to have relevant meetings in February,” he added.
Boris Pistorius's unannounced visit to Kyiv on January 14 underscores Germany's ongoing commitment to supporting Ukraine in its struggle against Russian aggression.
During the conflict, Germany’s contributions, including advanced air defence systems such as Patriot missiles, Iris-T systems, and Gepard anti-aircraft guns, have played a crucial role in safeguarding critical infrastructure, including the nation’s energy grid.
