Germany to begin evacuation of citizens from Lebanon, Middle East
Germany is taking steps to evacuate its nationals from Lebanon and other areas in the Middle East as tensions rise in the region.
The conflict between Israel and Iran, alongside Hezbollah, has prompted this course of action, Caliber.Az reports citing the foreign media.
Germany's air force is readying a limited fleet of A400M transport aircraft to facilitate the evacuation. These aircraft will potentially shuttle evacuees from Beirut to Cyprus. Approximately 2,000 German nationals are currently in the potential conflict zone. If necessary, they will be evacuated to the Mediterranean island over the course of a week, both by air and by sea ferries.
The regional instability has intensified following the recent assassinations of two key figures: Ismail Haniyeh, head of the Hamas political bureau, in Tehran, and Fuad Shukr, a commander of Hezbollah's military wing, in Beirut.
