Iran’s UN envoy reports deaths of medical workers in US-Israeli strikes
As a result of US and Israeli strikes in Iran, 13 children under the age of five and 21 medical personnel have been killed, Iran’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ali Bahreini, reported in a letter to World Health Organisation Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.
Bahreini also noted that 108 additional Iranian medical workers have been injured.
“Seven hospitals have been evacuated and are no longer operational. Forty-nine emergency service units, 38 ambulances, one medical helicopter, and one rescue boat have been either destroyed or severely damaged,” the representative said.
According to the Iranian Red Crescent Society, as of March 6, more than 1,300 people have been killed in Iran since the start of US and Israeli military actions. Additionally, over 3,600 civilian facilities have been damaged, including 3,000 residential buildings and 13 medical and pharmaceutical centres.
Data from the US-based Iranian human rights organisation Human Rights Activists News Agency, as of March 19, indicate that 3,186 people have died in Iran since the beginning of the US-Israeli strikes. Among the dead are 1,153 military personnel and 1,394 civilians, including 210 children. Another 639 fatalities have not yet been identified.
