Uzbekistan plans to complete nuclear plant design by end of 2026

Uzbekistan plans to complete design documentation for a new nuclear power plant by the end of 2026, according to the state nuclear energy agency Uzatom.

The project is also expected to enter a new phase later this year, with construction of external infrastructure networks scheduled to begin and efforts to expand the local production of components and equipment, Uzbek media reports. 

Uzatom said training programs for the project’s client and future operating personnel would also be accelerated.

Further project development is planned for 2027. This is expected to include the preparation of documentation for large VVER reactor units, the design of plant-wide buildings and the placement of orders for equipment requiring long production and delivery periods.
