Israel authorises IDF to call up to 400,000 reservists amid rising tensions

The Israeli government has authorised the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) to call up to 400,000 reservists amid military operations against Iran and Hezbollah, The Times of Israel reports.

Military officials clarified that this number does not represent the actual reservists to be summoned but serves as a cap, providing "flexibility according to operational needs.”

“The framework is intended to address challenges across the various arenas, particularly within the framework of Operation Roaring Lion,” the IDF said, referring to the current war with Iran.

The previous limit of 280,000 reservists was set in December 2025.
