Germany to send Patriot surface-to-air missiles, Marder BMPs in new aid package for Ukraine
Berlin's new military aid package for Kyiv will include air defence equipment, infantry fighting vehicles, shells and drones worth about 600 million euros.
This package should be announced after lunch on July 11 during the NATO summit in Vilnius. With this assistance, Berlin seeks to demonstrate that Germany remains among the countries that provide the most support to Ukraine, Spiegel reports.
According to Spiegel, the new package includes several Patriot launchers and other surface-to-air weapons from the Bundeswehr's stockpile.
It also includes additional Marder BMPs, Leopard 1 tanks, demining equipment, about 20,000 artillery shells and shells for Leopard tanks, as well as several drones for reconnaissance.
Of the whole package, the Patriot launchers and their missiles are probably the most strategically significant for Ukraine. For the Bundeswehr, this is probably not an easy gift, as Germany's own stockpiles are also insignificant.
