Helicopter crash in Indonesia leaves all eight onboard dead
Indonesian search and rescue authorities have confirmed that all eight people on board an Airbus H130 helicopter that crashed in the remote interior of Sekadau regency, West Kalimantan, have died.
The aircraft went down on Thursday morning while carrying six passengers, a pilot, and a co-pilot, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.
“All victims have been confirmed dead,” said Sugiyanto, an official with Sekadau Police.
Rescue teams reached the hilly crash site on Thursday night, but evacuation efforts were hampered by steep terrain and limited visibility.
The helicopter, registered PK-CFX and operated by Matthew Air, was piloted by Marindra W, with co-pilot Harun Arasyd on board, along with six passengers whose identities have not yet been released.
According to authorities, the aircraft departed from Melawi regency at 7:34 a.m. local time and lost contact at 8:39 a.m., after which it was reported missing.
The cause of the crash has not yet been determined.
