Hungary names conditions for approving Sweden's admission to NATO
The Hungarian parliament will be able to ratify the agreement on Sweden's accession to NATO if Swedish politicians manage to restore trust in relations between the two countries, which has been severely undermined.
Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations Peter Szijjarto, made the statement while speaking at an international conference on security in the Montenegrin city of Budva, TASS reports.
The foreign minister recalled that, on the one hand, Sweden urges Hungarian MPs to approve its accession to the North Atlantic Alliance, and on the other hand, addresses them with unfair reproaches for violating the principles of democracy and the rule of law. "This is unacceptable, it is offensive," Szijjártó said. At the same time, he expressed confidence that if Swedish politicians showed willingness to "return bilateral relations to the basis of mutual respect", the Hungarian parliament "will be able to speed up ratification".
