US state secretary calls Russia-US summit in Alaska “very productive"
The US state secretary provided his assessment of the Russia-US summit in Alaska in a comment for the Russian TV program “Moscow.Kremlin.Putin.”
Pavel Zarubin, who co-hosts the show on the Rossiya 1 channel published a corresponding clip on his Telegram channel, Caliber.Az reports.
“Very good. It was very productive,” he quoted Marco Rubio's short comment, who also took part in the talks between the two leaders.
Though initially speculations suggested that the leaders would hold a one-on-one meeting in Alaska, the format consisted of Rubio together with Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, while the Russian leader was supported by his Foreign Affairs Advisor Yuri Ushakov and veteran Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
According to some media reports, the change seemed to indicate the White House was perhaps taking a more guarded approach than during a 2018 meeting in Helsinki, where Mr Trump and Mr Putin met privately with interpreters.
