AFP: Macron decides to join Trump-Zelenskyy meeting
French President Emmanuel Macron will travel to Washington on August 18 together with Volodymyr Zelenskyy for a meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump, said the Élysée Palace.
“The President of the Republic will tomorrow travel to Washington alongside Zelenskyy and several European leaders to continue work on coordinating efforts between Europe and the United States in order to achieve a fair and lasting peace that safeguards Ukraine’s vital interests and Europe’s security,” the French leader’s administration noted, Caliber.Az reports via French news outlet AFP.
The August 18 White House meeting follows Trump’s August 15 summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Anchorage, Alaska, where they discussed ending the Ukraine conflict but reached no ceasefire agreement. Trump’s reported proposal, relayed to Zelenskyy and European leaders on August 16, included freezing frontlines with Ukraine potentially ceding control of Donetsk and Luhansk, a condition Zelenskyy rejected as “impossible” due to Donbas’s strategic importance.
