Hungary’s FM calls aid to Ukraine “pointless”
Hungary’s Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó has described financial and military support to Ukraine as “pointless,” saying it will only prolong the conflict and that the outcome of the war is “obvious”.
According to him, there is little sense in the EU sending billions of euros or additional weaponry to Ukraine, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
Szijjártó made the remarks amid growing debate within the European Union over funding and arms deliveries to Kyiv.
Earlier, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said that EU leaders had been presented with a confidential Ukrainian document outlining financial requests totalling $1.5 trillion, which he compared to “an atomic bomb.”
The document reportedly asks the EU for $800 billion over the next decade. Ukraine’s plans include an initial tranche of $300 billion, with an additional $700 billion earmarked for military expenditure over the same period.
Orbán has previously confirmed that Hungary will not provide financial support to Ukraine.
