IEA chief praises Azerbaijan’s role in Europe’s energy security, receives high honour PHOTO
On March 13, President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan warmly welcomed Fatih Birol, Executive Director of the International Energy Agency.
The meeting was marked by a momentous gesture: President Aliyev awarded Birol the prestigious "Dostlug" (Friendship) Order, recognizing his unwavering support for Azerbaijan’s leadership at COP29, his dedication to advancing global climate change initiatives, and his fruitful collaboration with Azerbaijan, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
Expressing deep appreciation, President Aliyev acknowledged Birol's significant contributions, particularly his valuable assistance during the COP29 summit. He underscored the importance of this partnership in addressing climate challenges on a global scale.
In a heartfelt response, Fatih Birol expressed immense pride in receiving the "Dostlug" Order, emphasizing Azerbaijan’s crucial role in Europe’s energy security as a steadfast and reliable partner. He congratulated Azerbaijan for its remarkable achievements at COP29, noting the complex negotiations and the significant progress made on the climate agenda.
Birol also took the opportunity to thank President Aliyev for the invitation to attend the XII Global Baku Forum, describing the event as an essential platform for addressing the most pressing international issues. He shared his thoughts on the potential for further collaboration with the Forum in the future.
