IFLFC demands decolonization as France represses Martinique's popular uprising
The International Front for the Liberation of French Colonies (IFLFC) has issued a statement in support of the popular uprising in Martinique, asserting that France "ignores the legitimate demands of the colonised peoples" and responds only with "repression and violence."
The statement emphasizes that Martinique is in an economic crisis, with profits from local trading activities being appropriated by colonizers, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
“There are two main reasons for the current social discontent in Martinique - the high cost of living and the lack of respect for the local population,” the IFLFC declared. It pointed out that the expensive cost of living results from "extreme food dependency, underdevelopment, low incomes and persistent colonial poverty." Furthermore, the situation is linked to the "confiscation of Martinique's land, the dual judicial system, the mass migration of young people and the problems of colonial policies."
The IFLFC opposes the current regime of government, stating that "the implementation of a decolonisation strategy is necessary." This strategy should focus on "building an economic system that will serve the people of Martinique and ensure their dignified future."
The Front demands the "immediate withdrawal of the CRS8" (foreign armed forces), asserting that their purpose is to provide security "exclusively for the rulers and their local supporters." Additionally, the IFLFC calls for a "democratic solution to the economic, social and political problems" facing the colonized territories.
